The 1960 Allard Dragster
The Allard Dragster was a car built by Sydney Allard in 1960. Allard built the car after a trip to the U.S.A., during which he observed the sport of drag racing, which had been started in 1950 to prevent young men from racing their cars around the streets.
The Dragster was powered by a 5.8-litre Chrysler V8 and ignited the enthusiasm for drag racing in Britain. Although there was only one Allard Dragster, smaller versions with 1.5-litre Ford engines called Dragons were produced for sale. Sadly, today only one Dragon is believed to have survived.
