The Carlton Carrera is a kit car that was produced between 1985 and the mid-1990s.

It is hard not to conclude that the inspiration for the Carrera was the Jaguar E-Type or the Datsun 240z, with its long bonnet. The car stills looks great, even decades later.

Originally the Carrera was based on Ford Cortina mechanicals, and used the Ford engine range up to the V6. Carlton made some changes and developed the Carrera later to take a Jaguar running gear and the capability to accept the Rover V8 and even the Jaguar V12.

The Carrera had a ladder frame chassis with a tough fibreglass body. It made use of the Cortina dash to give it a production quality feel inside (even if it was from the 70s and 80s). The Carrera was available as a 2+2, full 4 seater or a cabriolet.

The kit was fairly popular back in its day, selling over one hundred during its production run.
