The DAF Torpedo is a Dutch truck, introduced in 1957 by DAF in response to the demand of more conservative customers.
DAF built all forward-control trucks (lorries without nose), whose body had more cargo space at their disposal, this was an innovative concept.
Other truck manufacturers were often only torpedo models (trucks with a nose).
For now the somewhat reluctant customers were happy with the launch of the torpedo.
Initially there was only one version, delivered without a cabin. This was then fitted by a body builder. Later, a full cab was developed and then offered.
There were two versions with different types of engines, petrol and diesel.
