The Ford G398SAM is a 3-ton truck that was produced in between the years 1957 to 1975 and was used by the German Army. The strong vehicle with its angular hood had a V8 petrol engine with 92 hp and switchable all-wheel drive.
The chassis together with side-valve engine was a pre-war development of Ford. The army demanded the use of the single cab even though it is very narrowa. This prompted Ford to widen the axles, which caused some minor issues as the road capability had not improved significantly. Through the combination of narrow chassis and high center of gravity, the vehicle tends to not tip.
Approximately 8000 "Goats" were made, with two still being used on public roads and a further seven vehicles in museums or in private hands.
