In 1969 Colin Chapman started work on a purpose designed F5000 car.
The Lotus 68 featured the wedge shape used in the contemporary F1 and F2 designs. It appeared in production guise as the Lotus 70 in the 1970 international Formula Atlantic and F5000 series.
The 70's were available from the factory as a rolling chassis and were prepared to take either the Ford BOSS or the Chevrolet 302 engines.
However in the F5000 series it was no match for the McLaren M10s.
