The car was designed by Kenji Mimura and Masao Ono.

The car made its debut at the British Grand Prix where Howden Ganley failed to qualify in the car. The car's second appearance was at the German Grand Prix. He failed to qualify, and then badly injured his legs. The team then withdrew to Japan to repair and modify the car.
