The 14/30 HP is a luxury car produced between 1909 and 1915 by the German automaker Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft for his fledgling brand Mercedes. The production period indicated covers the natural evolution of this model, namely 14/35 HP.  

Features and profile

Built on the chassis of the smallest Mercedes 15/20 HP, 14/30 HP was going to take the place of the previous 18/22 Simplex HP, no longer in price since 1905. With respect to the latter, equipped with a 4.1-liter engine, the 14/30 HP had a lower displacement engine, a 4-cylinder in-line from 3560 cm³ (90x140 mm) carburettor fed and had a suction valves in the head and side exhaust valves. Even the camshaft used was turned on its side. Despite being smaller in size, this engine provides superior performance, however, and came to deliver a maximum power of 30 HP at 1600 rpm, sufficient to push the car to a top speed of 75 km/h. The frame pressed steel sheet used for the 14/30 HP was the same as the 15/20 HP. This chassis was available of your choice in one of the three available step measures. The "short" version used a frame from 2,815 mm step, intermediate version had a wheelbase of 3,015 mm and the "long" version arrived at 3,075. The frame was attached to the traditional rigid axle suspension with leaf springs and cardan shaft transmission with 4 speed gearbox. The braking system was fitted to the chassis: it had a mechanic service brake acting on the transmission shaft and a hand brake that acted on the rear wheels.


In 1910 the Knight was introduced, consisting of various models: one of them was the 16/40 HP who passed at 14/30 HP to complete the legacy of 18/22 Simplex HP. Proposal primarily as a torpedo or a limousine, the 14/30 HP was produced until 1912. In that year, the car suffered mechanical upgrades that led her to drive 35 HP maximum power 1700 RPM. For this reason it was renamed 14/35 HP. In this new configuration, the car was produced until 1915.


The 14/35 HP would not have had a direct heir: the only one that could somehow continue the journey would be the Knight 16/45 HP, destined in fact to replace Knight 16/40 HP and produced since 1916.
