Renault 1¾hp

The 1¾hp is a veteran automobile manufactured by the French automaker Renault S.A. in 1899. It is believed to be the first vehicle manufactured by the company, and was also the first production car to use a propeller shaft to transmit power to its rear wheels. The automobile was fitted with a 273cc single-cylinder engine and was capable of reaching speeds up to 22 mph (35.41 km/h). A Renault 1¾hp could be bought new during 1899 for a price of £160.
